Relationships among Social Support, Yangsaeng, and Quality of Life in Elderly People

Abstract

|
This study has been descriptively conducted with the purpose of identifying the relationship between social support, Yangsaeng and quality of life for the elderly. The data was obtained from 638 people over 65 years old at the 7 senior centers, 2 senior colleges, 2 churches, 3 welfare centers, 2 public health centers and 1 park in the D metropolitan city from August 11th to September 12th of 2010. Using the SPSS 15.0 program, the collected data were analyzed with frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Duncan test, and Pearson s correlation coefficient. The results of the study were summarized as follows. The level of social support, Yangsaeng and quality of life were rated 3.22, 3.25 and 3.08 respectively. The quality of life on participation showed a significantly positive correlation with social support and Yangsaeng. Therefore, based on this findings, for the improvement of the elderly s quality of life, the elderly should be constantly supported by the social support system, and to practice Yangsaeng for good health and long life.
